Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement

"It is our duty to concentrate all of our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound."

Joseph Smith

Reflection: What Mr. Smith was saying was that we should not promote or do things that we know are wrong such as drinking, smoking and doing drugs. When we do these things other people see it and it's like we are promoting or making popular drinking, smoking, and drugs. This is why Mr. Smith is telling that we should make popular what is sound and good like having good manners, no cussing, and being helpful.

Student Success Statement Abraham Lincoln

Student Success Statement
“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right and part with him when he goes wrong.
Abraham Lincoln

Reflection: Not everyone wins and not everyone wins all the time. We are not perfect, no one is, which is why Lincoln said he is not bound or tied to win because it is not something we not do sometimes. Also he is saying that he deciding to have friends that do right and if they do wrong he will part from them. I think this is a good idea because if you hang out with bad influences then you will follow their example and do the same things as them.

Student Success Statement Ralph Waldo Emerson

Student Success Statement

" Character is higher than intellect."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Reflection: Having a good character is higher than intellect because you can be the smartest person in the world but you can also be the snobbiest person in the world. So when you actually need someone to help you you intelligence will not be able to help you and if you are a snob then no one will want to be your friend and no one will help you. Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. When you have good qualities not only everyone wants to be your friend  but you feel good about yourself.
